I purchased a used 2013 Prius from Fred Anderson Sanford in September of 2025. I had just totaled a 2016 Prius I purchased new from Fred Anderson Raleigh and trusted I could rely on the Fred Anderson name to buy a good and reliable used car from, given the positive experience I had with the 2016 Prius. I assumed they would have the resources to diagnose any issues, make any repairs, touch up paint, fix any dents, replace any parts, and do a detailed clean of any used car they purchased, especially a used 2013 Toyota Prius, before selling it to a customer. I clearly assumed incorrectly and now know why used car dealers can become successful as independent used car salespeople, especially if they take time and put care into detailing a used car to make it look and function as new as possible before selling it to someone, which would be the right thing to do. When I went to pick up the car, I noticed the chipping and fading paint, stained carpets, and missing car mats. I asked the sales representative who sold me the car if they had any spare mats they could give be, but he said no. Shortly after purchasing the car, the low tire pressure sensor went bad and is now always on. I discovered the back bumper was broken and not able to fully attach to the frame. There is massive debris from the original owner in the spare tire compartment. The center display screen went grey and went static shortly after purchase. The passenger side interior panel is broken. The rear passenger side window cannot be controlled from the driver master control buttons. As of recently, system errors indicating the hybrid battery is failing started appearing. I emailed the sales representative about all these issues shortly after purchase and got no response. I asked if they made sure the hybrid battery was good before purchasing, which they confirmed, but obviously that was incorrect. Moral of the story, don’t buy used cars from Fred Anderson Sanford.
