I simply hate how the dealership nickles and dimes you over everything. I had experienced and issue with my SOS system back in March/April. I called after trying to contact VW through the app to clarify what was needed. I was told that this was most likely related to an issue between VW and Verizon, as a number of customers had been coming in with the same issue. I said, okay, I will bring it in with my next service as I do not want the SOS system and would like to have it disabled anyway. At the time of phone call, I asked if there was a way to disable this service and I was told no. Come time for my next service and it's $149 to run diagnostics because I'm now 5,000 miles past my warranty (which was not explained to me when I called at the beginning of this issue, nor was there any communication from my last service how close I was getting to the end of my warranty for these types of issues). So after spending over $300 to run diagnostics on the SOS system (which was apparently related to a battery that runs the SOS system and is known to need replaced after a few years anyway [part is also over $300]) and the service to have my oil changed, I asked again if there was a way to disable the SOS service - take a fuse out, something to get it to no longer have the dashboard alerts. I was told no, replacing the battery was the only solution and taking fuses out will only cause more issues. So I paid my money and left. I spent 15 minutes online and found a solution that disables the SOS system in the car without any negative impact to my other vehicle systems. Had I known that was an option, it would have saved me $150. Absolute garbage service communication all around - lack of knowing your customers, lack of knowledge related to the systems in the vehicle, and complete disregard to expense.
